Command Sets -- Introduction

 There are four primary command set types for serial-based duplication robots:

Each command set type share a characteristic interaction style and core set of commands, though they can vary slightly from one manufacturer to another.  For example, all serial-based Microboards units fall under the Generic command set category, but while most units in that category use "G" for "Get from disc tray", the older Microboards units use "K" instead, even though they use all of the other standard commands.

 

In addition, some contemporary hardware which falls under the "Generic" type, are macro-programmable units which can support the addition of commands to their lexicon via uploaded macro files (which are then stored in non-volatile memory).  This allows for branding by the sellers who put their name on the units, as well as brand-specific environment handling and behaviors.
